¿Es un mal momento para contratar un depósito?

¿Es un buen momento para contratar un depósito?

Parece que sí. Los clientes traspasan parte de sus vencimientos a otros productos, la prensa publica especiales sobre alternativas a los tradicionales depósitos, aparecen nuevos instrumentos de inversión en el mercado y las entidades de crédito insisten a sus clientes en las bondades de la diversificación.

Ha empezado una revolución. El ahorrador tradicional -conservador, desconfiado y con escasa cultura financiera-, al ver los tipos de los depósitos por debajo del 1%, ha traspasado su umbral de dolor y se ha planteado por primera vez invertir en otras alternativas.

No obstante, cabe decir que este umbral del dolor es sólo psicológico y emerge en parte de la falta de cultura financiera. Al analizar la rentabilidad que obtiene en su depósito, el ahorrador  obvia un factor clave: la inflación. Actualmente la tasa de inflación interanual es negativa, hecho que hace que los ahorradores, aún con depósitos pagados por debajo del 1% de interés, estén incrementando su poder adquisitivo.

Si viajamos en el tiempo, por ejemplo a Enero de 2013, el tipo medio de los depósitos a plazo hasta 1 año [1] era del 2,43% y la inflación interanual del 2,75%. En este contexto el ahorrador, pese a cobrar el triple de intereses que ahora, perdía poder adquisitivo. Pese a ello, el 2013 no comenzó con los ahorradores traspasando sus depósitos a otros productos, ni con especiales en la prensa, ni con campañas de las entidades de crédito para ofrecer alternativas a sus clientes para diversificar.

Al analizar la rentabilidad que obtiene en su depósito, el ahorrador obvia un factor clave: la inflación. Actualmente la tasa de inflación interanual es negativa, hecho que hace que los ahorradores, aún con depósitos pagados por debajo del 1% de interés, estén incrementando su poder adquisitivo.

Estamos en un momento muy interesante: el cliente pide otras cosas y las entidades quieren ofrecérselas. Sin embargo, debemos evitar caer en errores del pasado. Por un lado, hay que darle al cliente toda la información disponible. Hay que explicarle que, objetivamente, contratar un depósito hoy es mejor inversión que en Enero de 2013. Por el otro lado, es un buen momento para hablarle de diversificar, explicarle el binomio rentabilidad/riesgo, entender cuál es su perfil y ofrecerle alternativas adecuadas. En resumen: un excelente momento para recuperar la confianza del cliente.

El sector no se puede permitirse otra ola de desconfianza, no puede volver a caer en errores del pasado, como ha sido “colocar” a ahorradores tradicionales productos con riesgo.  Es responsabilidad de las entidades financieras, de los gestores de los clientes y de los organismos supervisores evitarlo. No habrá una tercera oportunidad.
