La historia del dinero contada en mil objetos: Reino Unido trabaja para impulsar la educación financiera entre sus jovenes, que no conocen ni sus estados de cuenta bancarios.

¿Alguna vez sentiste la necesidad de controlar tus gastos? Un consejo: saca tu tarjeta de crédito, colócala en un vaso de agua y luego mete el vaso en el refrigerador.

Si aparece la tentación, tendrás que esperar varias horas para que se descongele, para ese momento es probable que disminuya tu apetito por las compras y al menos tengas la cabeza más fría para reconsiderar sus méritos. Hay pocas esperanzas de usar a tu amigo cuando está encerrado en hielo.

¿Un ejemplo extremo de autonegación? Tal vez, pero uno real que se encontró en una investigación de Money Advice Service (MAS), una de cientos de organizaciones que participan en la Global Money Week (GMW o Semana Mundial del Dinero), iniciativa diseñada para promover la educación financiera entre los jóvenes.

El MAS se va a deshacer, como se informó en el FT y lo confirmó el Departamento del Tesoro en el presupuesto de esta semana. Pero quedará la necesidad de los británicos para aprender buenos hábitos financieros. David Haigh, director de capacidad financiera del MAS, estuvo en el evento de inauguración en el Museo Británico del lunes, junto con los organizadores, Child & Youth Finance International y los curadores de la Citi Money Gallery del museo.

Rodeado de cajas que contienen conchas cauri, áureos romanos, las primeros certificados de acciones, fichas de cafeterías y dinero de plástico, Haigh señaló que no se debe considerar en automático que la tecnología es un instrumento para el bien en la lucha por mejorar la comprensión de las finanzas que tiene la gente.

Hay muchas ventajas que se tienen que considerar. Hay cientos de aplicaciones y páginas web que surgieron para decirte cuánto dinero tienes, cómo lo gastas en las diferentes categorías, y hace la comparación de lo que gastaste el mes pasado con este.
